As promised, I have prepared for you a photo comparison of the two most popular flagships that have recently entered the mobile device market. We checked which of the smartphones performed better in certain applications.
I spent several days with Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra and Apple iPhone 14 Pro smartphones and I have to tell you something about them. More precisely, I decided to assemble them photographically. Due to the fact that there are certain differences between them, not everything can be compared one by one. From a typical juxtaposition of photos, we’ve chosen those taken with the ultra-wide, wide-angle, telephoto and selfie camera. We also checked the software’s background blur. What hasn’t been checked? Well, first of all, Samsung shoots at four times the resolution, but only if you choose the right mode. Therefore, it is impossible to rate this issue 100%. Luckily, both devices combine pixels to reduce the actual photo size and get the most out of the shots. H Samsung may be of interest to people who want to record videos in 8k resolution and take photos in full manual mode. Such goodness is in vain to seek in the iPhone and it makes no sense to say that it is irrelevant. These are the shortcomings you need to be aware of.

Photo comparison: main camera – wide angle
Both devices do just fine, both in good light conditions and at night. Whether the day was cloudy or sunny, the effects are more than satisfactory. This should surprise no one. After all, we are dealing with flagship models. However, not everything is the same.
The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra offers slightly sharper photos and, interestingly, the device scores in great detail. In fact, the iPhone 14 Pro performs better in detail at times. However, this is not the rule. Interestingly, this also applies to photography in RAW and ProRAW formats. Naturally, after developing photos in Lightroom or Affinity, for example, we can choose other features, but post-production is another topic.
Samsung’s photos also have more saturated and vibrant colors. I won’t lie – it looks great, but personally I prefer a more natural look. It all depends on your expectations. In terms of exposure and tonal range, the two devices are similar. However, I think when it comes to night photos, the Galaxy S23 Ultra looks more interesting, where the photos show more and more accuracy. This is of course a generalization, because in fact the iPhone 14 Pro also surprises in this matter. It all depends on the angle of incidence of the ambient light, the colors and the distance from the objects.
A photographic comparison: the selfie
When it comes to selfies, both devices present a flagship level. For me, the iPhone offered a close-to-life face and skin color, but that was only for the day. It was quite different at night. Samsung literally propagated the competitor with the logo of a bitten apple on the case. However, it must be admitted that Apple provided a more precise background cutout. Of course – during the day.
Photographic comparison: ultra wide angle and telephoto
The ultra wide-angle is not the strong point of smartphones, even if we are talking about flagships. Samsung, however, delivered a cooler image with slightly more noticeable distortion in the corners of the photo. iPhone, as in the case of the main camera – provided greater realism and colors close to reality. They were definitely warmer.
As for the telephoto lens, we can speak of an equal level. Samsung may be more specific. The difference in colors and tonal range is exactly the same as in the case of the main camera. Interestingly, Apple has always ensured that the colors are similar regardless of the lens used. Samsung did it differently, but this time the South Korean manufacturer did a great job.
Verdict
No, there will be no clear answer for the winner. Both smartphones are splendid smart feature-packed smartphones that will meet most of the expectations of a homegrown mobile photography enthusiast. It all comes down to color preferences, as well as a possible willingness to work with the professional mode, which the iPhone lacked.
